ECP ready to do the job: CEC

Published December 5, 2012

KARACHI: Hours after the Supreme Court’s verdict calling for carrying out a door-to-door verification of electoral rolls in Karachi with the help of the army and Frontier Corps, Chief Election Commissioner Fakhruddin G. Ebrahim said his organisation was ready to do the job and a meeting had been called on Friday to discuss the matter.

“Verification of voters’ list is a key issue,” the CEC told journalists here. “Verification of voters’ list in Karachi will be a big achievement and any move which authenticates transparent electoral process will be welcomed and appreciated.”

In reply to a question, he said there was enough time to carry out the job. “Our primary and only goal should be transparent elections, which needs cooperation from every quarter of society and we expect that such cooperation will be extended.”
