BAHAWALPUR, Jan 9: Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi has said the provincial government will take effective measures for the uplift of south Punjab.
He addressed two public meetings at Basti Ranjha Khan and Basti Maulvian in Rahim Yar Khan on Thursday.
Mr Elahi said he had already announced a grant of Rs1 billion for Rahim Yar Khan district for the provision of clean drinking water, laying new sewerage lines and construction of roads.
The problem of potable water would be resolved within two months, while the sewerage and road projects would be completed within two years, he added.
He assured farmers that after cleaning the Abbasia Link Canal, the problem of irrigation water could be overcome.
Mr Elahi announced the supply of gas to Basti Ranjha Khan, Rs10 million for the construction of cemented water courses and the electrification of 10 villages. Later, he addressed a public meeting at Basti Maulvian.
The chief minister inaugurated on Wednesday a road named after the late Makhdoomzada Syed Hasan Mahmood, the father of Rahim Yar Khan district Nazim Makhdoom Ahmad Mahmood. The one-km-long road was constructed at a cost of Rs15 million.

The accused allegedly pushed one Aslam in the Bahawal canal. His body was recovered from the canal after 10 days’ struggle.
