RAWALPINDI, Dec 4: A young boy driven mad by love for a girl he barely knew, shot himself. And in the horrors of horrors, chose the girl’s house as a venue to perform the last rites on his own life.

The incident happened in Jhangi Mohallah, Banni police area.

It all started off innocently, two years ago. The boy met the girl — as the story goes — at Holy Family Hospital, where she was taking care of her ailing mother.

Their first meeting was like a script out of a Bollywood movie — as the girl explains: “As I was leaving the hospital, two unidentified boys tried to intercept me. When I resisted and shouted for help, the boy — who is dead now — showed up from nowhere and rescued me. While the two other boys — the bad guys — fled.”

But even after the Prince in shining armour style first encounter, the girl admits:  “It was my fault. I thanked him and gave him my cellphone number. Later he tried to contact me but I did not respond.”

As time passed, the boy got frustrated, and on Monday he arrived at the girl’s house and sought to see the father.

This is how the father explains it: “Though, I had never met the boy before but I asked my son to let him in, anyways.  The young man without much ado inquired into the marriage prospects of my daughter — whether she was engaged to someone or not.

“During the conversation he even called his brother on the cellphone and said that he was going to do what he had promised to do before leaving the house.”

The father admits that family members were clueless as to the intentions of the young man.

The father said that after talking to his brother, the young man requested to use the washroom. Once inside the restroom, he shot himself with a pistol.

On hearing the gunshot, the father called his son and other family members to see what happened. Later emergency services were called, who shifted the injured to District Headquarters Hospital, where he died on Tuesday.

When the police investigating officer, Nazir Baig, was contacted, he said the suicide victim belonged to Kahuta and presently resided in a rented room in Satellite Town. Supposedly had been in love with the girl and wanted to get married to her.

The police officer claimed that the girl had also been in contact with the boy during the last two years.

He said that the victim had been in distress ever since, eventually committing suicide, which was daring but deranged at the same time.
