ISLAMABAD, Dec 4: As many as 85 paintings, regarding violence against women, made by students of seven universities, on Tuesday, were displayed in Lok Virsa.

The exhibition was organised by Women’s Organisation for Rights and Development to promote awareness regarding rights of women.

Representatives of different organisations, Samina Nazir, Dr Hoti, Dr Ambreen and executive director (ED) Lok Virsa spoke to participants of the exhibition.

Participants said that in the past, whenever a husband tortured his wife, people ignored it by saying that it was their family matter but now things are changing quickly and everyone knows that torturing women or children is a crime.

A 2010 bill, regarding harassment against women at the workplace was passed and it should be implemented, demanded one participant. Before the bill, sexual harassment was not considered a crime but only a social evil, speakers said.

Participants said that we have to give awareness to our young generation about the violence against women.

Executive Director Khalid Javaid said Lok Virsa is always available for all kinds of noble causes. He said that with the passage of time things have started changing and the society has become more aware about violence against women and its consequences.

Omer Hayat, a student, while talking to Dawn, said that he was not aware about the violence against women but through media he has come to know that the problem is wide spread.
