PESHAWAR, Dec 1: Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid Khyber Pakhtunkhwa information secretary Nighat Orakzai on Saturday resigned from her official responsibilities in protest against the behaviour of party’s provincial leadership.

Talking to this correspondent, Ms Nighat, who is also member of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on reserved seat of the PML-Q, said that she had always served the party with devotion, but its provincial leadership always ignored her.

“I remained loyal to Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and general secretary Mushahid Hussain Syed, but the provincial president Syed Qasim Shah never accepted me as part of the party otherwise he would have shared party’s affairs with me on different occasions,” she complained.

She said that being provincial secretary information she was not informed about the public meeting scheduled in Mansehra for Sunday (today). “This is not happening for the first time, but the leadership always ignored me,” she said.

Asked if she was going to join Pakistan People’s Party, the woman lawmaker said that she had not made up her mind so far, but leaders of different political parties had offered her to join them. Ms Nighat said that she had worked for strengthening of the party at a time when people were joining PML-N under Amir Muqam, but the PML-Q leadership did not acknowledge her services.

The MPA claimed that she had never served personal interests, but always preferred party’s interests.

“What will I do with the party’s office (secretary information) when the leadership is reluctant to take me into confidence concerning important issues and the best option for me is to step down,” she said. The lawmaker said that she would soon decide future line of action.

When contacted, PML-Q provincial general secretary Intikhab Khan Chamkani said that he did not know about Ms Nighat’s resignation. However, he said that Ms Nighat held an important office in the party and her duty required her to take active part in political activities, keep herself updated about any development and try to resolve issues amicably. “The party has always respected her and her complaints are baseless,” he said.

About the public meeting at Mansehra, Mr Chamkani said that the event was organised by party workers and it should not be made a matter of ego. —Bureau Report
