PESHAWAR, Nov 30: Former central general secretary of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz women wing Shazia Aurangzeb joined Pakistan People’s Party in a meeting at People’s House here on Friday.

She was accompanied by some PML-N women wing leaders, including Maryam Gandapur, Safia Israr, Salma Jahangir and others.

Ms Shazia, a member of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, said that she had already resigned from PML-N and joined the PPP in consultation with her supporters and relatives. Her husband Mr Aurangzeb was also present on the occasion and joined the party.

Several PPP leaders, including women wing’s provincial president Ms Asma Alamgir, Mohammad Humayun Khan, Senator Rubina Khalid, health minister Zahir Ali Shah, Ayub Shah and Azam Afridi, were also present on the occasion.

Ms Shazia recalled the hardships she suffered when Nawaz Sharif was out of country and claimed that under her leadership women had continued protest demonstrations as the men had gone into hiding.

“Now there is no place for sincere workers because Mr Sharif has joined hands with a brother of Pervez Musharraf,” she said without naming Amir Muqam. The MPA said that she would not resign from the assembly seat and would work as ordinary worker of the PPP.

Welcoming the MPA and her supporters into the PPP, provincial president Anwar Saifullah Khan said that his party held women in high esteem. He hoped that women would play their role in strengthening of the PPP.
