Protest against police

PESHAWAR, Nov 30: Residents of Adezai on Friday held a protest demonstration against the alleged murder of two persons by the police.

The protesters placing the bodies at Sher Shah Suri road outside the Peshawar Press Club shouted slogans against the police alleging the victims, Amjad and Said Khan of Adezai, had been picked by police from their houses and then their bullet-riddled bodies were recovered.

They demanded registration of murder case against the rural circle police. However, police said they did not know about the murdered men.—Bureau Report

‘ANP serving its own interests’

PESHAWAR, Nov 30: The activists of People’s Students Federation have blamed the Awami National Party leadership for only focusing on its own interests and ignoring the common man in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Speaking at a press conference at Peshawar Press Club on Friday, a leader of PSF, Peshawar chapter, Ijaz Afridi also said being a coalition partner the PPP could not serve people and failed to get due share in jobs in different departments.

Flanked by other office-bearers, Mr Afridi, however, claimed PPP would form the next government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as the ANP would not be able to get the required seats in the next general elections due to its ‘failed policies’.

The PSF leader further claimed the PPP always provided relief and job opportunities to people as thousands of families had been getting benefits through BISP. He said PPP always provided interest-free loans to people.—Bureau Report

Int’l students’ competition

SWABI, Nov 30: Students from different leading foreign universities have reached Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology to participate in the ‘International AirEx'12 Innovation Challenge and Leadership Summit’ starting today (Saturday).

The event has been organised by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, GIK Institute chapter.

Ahmad Imran, president of the society, and event coordinator Owais Malik told media on Friday students from Belgium, China, Brazil, Argentina and Lithuania and Pakistani universities would grace the competition, testing their knowledge and capability.

The students will become familiar with each other while discussing the latest developments in the filed of technology.

Mr Ahmad said it was not an ordinary task to organise such an international event and coming of students from numerous continents to GIK institute at Topi was really a great development and encouraging step. “We appreciate participation of the foreign students,” he said.—Correspondent

Lack of civic facilities

LAKKI MARWAT, Nov 30: Office-bearers of Laspaveja welfare committee called on MPA Munawar Khan Marwat on Friday and apprised him about the problems being faced by the residents of Hafizabad locality of Lakki city.

Gul Tayyaz Khan Marwat, Akbar Khan and others informed the lawmaker the residents were confronting problems of power supply and poor sanitation. They requested asked for installation of power pylons and pavement of streets.

Mr Munawar told the delegation that it was his priority to provide basic facilities to inhabitants of urban locality. He said millions of rupees were spent on small and mega uplift schemes in Lakki city.

He said the urban locality would be made a model by paying special heed to its beautification and development. He assured that he would arrange special funds for installation of electricity poles and pavement of streets in the locality.—Correspondent

Students seek financial help

LANDI KOTAL, Nov 30: Students from different educational institutions in Bara have demanded reopening of all educational institutions and a special package for thousands of affected students.

The demand came at a welcome party for the fresh students organised by the Khyber Students Union, which was participated by a large number of Bara students studying in schools, colleges and universities in Khyber Agency and Peshawar.

Bashir Ahmad, chairman KSU, lamented that despite several demands, both the federal and provincial governments had so far refused to announce a special package for Bara students.

He said nearly 20,000 students were affected by the ongoing militancy and military operations as their institutions were either destroyed or closed down due to fear of attacks in Bara.

He said a special package was announced for the students of Swat but a similar demand from Bara was denied.—Correspondent  

Cricket tournament

LAKKI MARWAT, Nov 30: Town club Tajazai beat Arman club in the opening match of second Khushal Cricket Tournament on Friday.

Cricket teams from Frontier Region of Lakki are participating in the tournament organised by Fata Secretariat Programme at the sports complex Tajazai. A larger number of tribesmen and cricket lovers were present in the stadium.

Town club comprising officials and employees of political administration won the toss and decided to bat first, scoring 108 runs in ten overs. Assistant political agent Mohammad Fayyaz Khan Sherpao made 12 runs followed by ten runs scored by DCO Nisar Ahmad, who holds the office of FR Lakki political agent.

Chasing the target the batsmen of Arman club were bundled out at 78. PA Mr Nisar got two wickets while APA took one wicket.

Nisar Ahmad distributed sports kits among the players.—Correspondent
