SHIKARPUR, Jan 8: A peace rally was taken out by the Pakistan Paramedical Staff Association on Wednesday in which they appealed to the Sindh government and chiefs of all tribes, particularly the Mahar and Jatoi tribes, to take effective measures for settling their tribal disputes.

The medical superintendent, Civil Hospital, and other doctors participated in the rally and held a demonstration at the Lakhi Gate Tower area.

They also threatened to observe hunger strike unto death if the government and the chiefs of the tribes failed to stop bloodshed in the district.

JSQM: A token hunger strike was observed by the activists of the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM) against the on-going tribal disputes in the district on Wednesday.

TRIBESMAN KILLED: In an armed clash between the Mahars and Jatois, a tribesman, Gulshan Mahar, 40, was shot dead while he was selling vegetables at the Sabzi Mandi, Stuart Ganj, on Wednesday.

TEN POLICE OFFICIALS HURT: Eight police officials of the Humayoon police station were injured when a police mobile van overturned on the Garhi Yasin-Humayoon link road, near the Agha Farm, on Wednesday.

The police mobile van was returning from Madheji at the time of the accident.

The injured policemen included SHO Humayoon, Inspector Nusrat Shaikh, Head Constable Rustam Arain, Constable Shabbir Ahmed Dasti, Constable Abdul Wahab Mahar, Constable Mukhtiar Ahmed Junejo, Constable Atta M. Napar, and Constable Ali Nawaz Memon. The driver of the van, Shamsuddin Shar, was also injured during the accident.

MMA: The vice president of the Muttahida Majlis- i-Amal, Sindh, Allama Hassan Turrabi, on Tuesday accused Gen Pervez Musharraf of having damaged the democratic process and moral values of the parliamentarians besides interfering in the formation of federal and provincial governments.

Speaking at a press conference here, he termed the alliance of the religious parties natural in the wake of the US aggression in the region.

Criticizing the role of the federal government, he said that it had damaged the sanctity of the Parliament and the judiciary.

Expressing the MMA’s determination to wage struggle against undemocratic and unconstitutional strategies adopted by the opportunists and the rulers, he said that the MMA wanted to free the country of foreign domination.
