Two killed for honour

CHARSADDA, Nov 26: A man shot dead his brother and ex-wife in the name of honour in Shabqadar here on Monday.

Sources said the accused opened fire on his brother and former wife, killing both on the spot. The accused managed to escape after the incident.

The accused had also killed his mother-in-law and injured his ex-wife previously after he doubted their characters and divorced her. It was reported that the woman, seeking to revenge the divorce, developed relation with the brother of her ex-husband, which infuriated the accused. The police registered case and started investigation.—Correspondent

Importance of education

SWABI, Nov 26: Amjid Ali, member of Pakistan Coalition for Education and information secretary of Tanzeem Haqooq-ul-Ibad Gadoon, has asked the government to take measures on war footing to increase literacy rate.

Presiding over a meeting here on Monday, Mr Ali said many children especially the girls remained deprived of their right to education because of either lack of financial support or their parents didn’t know the importance of education.

“Among the deprived children 63 per cent are girls and majority of them belong to the underprivileged class,” he maintained.

He called for increase in education budget.—Correspondent

Abducted Wapda workers

PESHAWAR, Nov 26: Family members of the kidnapped Wapda employees on Monday held a protest demonstration against the government’s alleged failure to trace them out.

The protesters were holding banners and placards inscribed with demands for early and safe recovery of the kidnapped victims.

“All the eight kidnapped Wapda employees are in the captivity of militants, who earlier demanded Rs350 million for their release, which now they have slashed to Rs170 million,” they said.

The protesters said they had contacted Wapda chairman and requested him to do something for release of the workers, but he didn’t do so despite assurances.—Bureau Report

Varsity declares results

TIMERGARA, Nov 26: The University of Malakand (UoM) on Monday announced results of different disciplines.

According to a notification issued by the controller of examinations, Barkat Ali got 795 marks and obtained first position in MA Arabic, Arshad Iqbal secured 615 marks and got first position in English, Irfanullah with 740 marks topped history, Suhail Khan with 619 marks became first in Urdu, Anwar Ali with 745 marks secured first position in Pashto, Saleh Khan got first position in political science securing 669 marks, Imran Khan with 588 marks got top spot in sociology, Nasreen Jabin with 588 marks became first in Urdu and Attaullah obtained 795 marks and topped Islamiat examinations, according to a press release.—Correspondent

Consumer protection

MANSEHRA, Nov 26: The consumer’s protection council has demanded appointment of staff sanctioned for the council secretariat to provide relief to people.

“If posts, including that of the assistant director, sanctioned by the finance department for council secretariat are filled, it would enhance the performance and scope of the council benefiting maximum people,” demanded a resolution moved by Shahjahan Khan Swati advocate, the chairman of the council, at its meeting on Monday.

“When the owners of CNG stations suspended the gas supply following the apex court order, we moved the consumer court, which got the gas supply restored during Eidul Azha,” recalled Mr Swati while narrating the benefits of such bodies.—Correspondent

Two killed in Kohat

KOHAT, Nov 26: Two people were killed in different incidents in the city here on Monday.

In the first incident, Naushad reported to the Jungle Khel police station that his brother, Adil, was sitting in a shop when Badshah alias Gamo opened indiscriminate fire on him, killing him on the spot. The police registered the case and launched investigations.

Meanwhile, an old man was killed after being hit by a pick-up van on courts road on Monday. The body of the unidentified man was placed in the KDA divisional headquarters hospital for identification.

The driver of the pickup was arrested and the vehicle was impounded.—Correspondent
