PESHAWAR, Jan 8: The Awami National Party (ANP) has condemned the provincial government’s policies accusing the MMA of backing out of its commitments made during the election campaign.
“The MMA government is pursuing policies in clear negation of the promises its leadership made with the general public during the election campaign,” ANP information secretary Haji Mohammed Adeel said in a press release issued on Wednesday.
He said that against its promise of ensuring free education up to secondary level, the MMA after assuming power in the province had adopted the stand that it was looking for the opportunities to ensure free education at the primary level or up to 8th grade.
“Those (MMA leaders) who have been opposing Western countries are now talking of exploring opportunities to raise funds from the donor agencies to materialize the MMA-led NWFP government’s education sector policies,” said Mr Adeel.
The ANP also questioned the recently launched desiltation campaign. “Against their promises of ensuring simplicity if voted to power, the MMA government in the province has resorted to extra ordinary expenses after Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani launched the desiltation campaign at a ceremony in which he was extended red-carpet welcome,” the ANP leader said.
Similarly, he added, the MMA to the day had to give practical shape to its promise of converting the NWFP Governor’s House into a university and the chief minister’s house into a girls’ college.
