GUJRANWALA, Nov 24: The district administration has issued final notices to owners of at least 1,475 industrial units to shift them from residential areas to outside the city.

However, the owners have refused to comply with the orders saying they will not shift their units till the establishment of an industrial estate.

Reports say these industrial units have been established in residential areas where people are facing health issues due to poisonous emissions and they have demanded of the district administration to shift these industrial units to outside the city.

Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry vice-president Malik Muhammad Amin also opposed the shifting of industrial units without establishing an industrial estate equipped with all basic facilities like gas and electricity.

District Officer (Industries) Muhammad Bashir said that final notices had been issued to industrialists to shift their units from residential areas while action would be taken against violators after Ashura.

IMPOUNDED: Over 100 motorcycles were impounded on the charge of violating a ban on pillion riding here on Saturday.

Reports said the Punjab government had banned pillion riding across the province on Muharram 9 and 10.

Police checked motorcyclists and impounded bikes for violation in various police stations of the city.
