GUJRANWALA, Nov 23: Two people were shot dead and as many sustained injuries on Friday in a clash between two rival groups over a dispute of children in Model Town, Dhulley.

The children of Muhammad Asif Lone and Muhammad Irfan Gujjar had quarrelled while playing in the street. Later, their mothers also exchanged harsh words over the issue. Elders of the area gathered both groups for reconciliation. In the meantime, a dozen men of the Lone group burst into the house of Gujjar group and opened fire on them. Ali Raza, 15, died instantly while his father Muhammad Asghar and uncle Muhammad Sarwar sustained injuries. The Gujjar group also returned the fire, killing a proclaimed offender, Safdar Munir, wanted by Model Town police in various cases of dacoity, murder and other heinous crimes. The Gujjar group however claimed the PO was killed by the firing of his own men.

Police have registered a case against both groups and are investigating.

RELEASED: At least 61 prisoners of the central jail involved in minor crimes were released on the orders of the district and sessions judge here on Friday.

They have been in jail for the last several years.
