MULTAN, Jan 7: The Punjab governor has ordered setting up of abattoirs in Lahore, Multan, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala and Sialkot equipped with latest technology.

This was stated by DCO Maj Azam Suleman (retired) at a meeting held here on Tuesday to deliberate upon the possible sites for the construction of two slaughter houses in the outskirts of the city.

He told the meeting that the slaughter houses would be built outside the city limits to avoid environment pollution.

The meeting discussed the sites for the proposed slaughter houses near Vehari Road, Shershah Road and Bahawalpur Road. It was decided that the cattle markets would also be shifted near the slaughter houses.

The DCO directed the officials concerned to prepare PC-1 and design of the slaughter houses as early as possible so that it could be submitted to the provincial government for the release of funds for the project. He also ordered shifting of cattle outside the city to Gowala colonies.
