MIRPURKHAS, Jan 7: The people of Mirpurkhas are facing an acute shortage of water since the last six days due to suspension of the water supply from scheme I and II.
Two power transformers of the water supply scheme were burnt about six days back as a result of which two pumping machines had also been damaged and the water supply from this scheme was suspended.
The authorities concerned have not fixed the transformers and the pumping machines as yet.
The people have been compelled to get water with the help of hand pumps.
The municipal administration sells water at the rate of Rs200 to Rs300 per tanker, which is pretty high.
Among the localities which are facing an acute shortage of water are Satellite Town, Panhwar Colony, Bhansinghabad, Walkart, Lalchandabad, Gharibabad, Adam Town, New Town, Pak Colony, Rajar Colony, Ghausia Colony, Police Lines, Shahi Bazaar, Toorabad, and Dholanabad.
THEFT: Some thieves broke into the house of a high school teacher, Hamid Ali, at Iqbal Nagar, Toorabad, late Monday night and stole jewellry and other valuables.
Hamid had gone to Sukkur to attend a marriage ceremony with his family.
A case has been registered with the town police.
MINISTER: Sindh minister for information technology Shabbir Ahmed Qaimi has said that the provincial government will serve the people without any discrimination.
He was speaking at a function, held at here the other day to mark the Yaum-i- Azm of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement.
Qaimi said that his party would solve basic problems of rural as well as urban areas.
He said that he was aware of the problems of Mirpurkhas, and pledged to make efforts to solve the grievances of its residents.
