ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh said here on Tuesday that tax evaders would not be allowed concessions anymore, adding that, the prime minister had supported the tax amnesty scheme which would be presented to the federal cabinet, DawnNews reported.

Speaking at a press conference held in Islamabad, Dr Shaikh added that despite sending out notices, people fail to pay their taxes. He emphasised that now these people would have to pay their taxes.

He said the ministry was completing the stage of essential documentation required to implement the scheme and that the proposal would soon be presented to the cabinet.

Dr Shaikh said the delay in the Reformed General Sales Tax (RGST) adversely affected the state of education, health and law and order across the country.

The minister added that there was an increase of Rs 350 billion in tax revenue last year.

He further said that the provincial governments would have to fulfill their responsibilities in collecting tax revenue, adding that, they were not doing so at present.

The finance minister also said that the current government had saved Pakistan from defaulting, adding that, in the last four and a half years the government had transferred Rs 50 trillion were transferred to the provinces and completed 650 projects costing up to Rs 30 trillion.
