ISLAMABAD, Nov 9: The Supreme Court has granted one-month extension to the Shoaib Suddle Commission to complete inquiry into the Arsalan Iftikhar-Malik Riaz graft case, says a notification issued by the court on Thursday.

The commission after getting the extension served a fresh notice on real estate tycoon Malik Riaz, asking him to appear before it to record his statement, a source privy to the development told Dawn.

The commission has already summoned Malik Riaz at least three times but so far he has failed to comply with its orders.

The Supreme Court in its order on Nov 6 directed the commission to complete the inquiry by Dec 6, 2012.

However, the source said that the commission might not be able to complete the inquiry till Dec 6 owing to ‘lack of cooperation’ by Malik Riaz. The real estate businessman is complainant in the case and has accused Mr Arsalan Iftikhar, the son of the chief justice, of receiving more than Rs342 million from him to get his cases pending in the apex court settled.

“After getting one-month extension the commission has served another notice on Malik Riaz to appear before the commission to record his statement in light of allegations he has levelled against Arsalan Iftikhar,” a source close to the commission said. “If Malik Riaz continues his non-cooperation and does not appear before the commission, it would have no option but to take ex parte decision,” the source said.
