LAHORE, Nov 8: The Punjab University administration has decided in principle that the university will remain open on all national holidays, including Independence Day, and all teaching departments will organise lectures and ceremonies with regard to the importance of the day.

The university administration on Thursday issued a circular to all faculty deans and heads of departments on the eve of Iqbal Day and directed all teaching departments to organise lectures and ceremonies to mark the day.

The circular also stated that the holiday in lieu of the national day would be observed the next day or any other day as per suitability.

With regard to Iqbal Day, the PU administration has decided that the in lieu of holiday will be observed on Nov 16 (Friday).

The circular has requested all department heads to organize seminars, quiz competitions, debates to create awareness among students regarding personality, philosophy and poetry of Allama Iqbal.

Iqbal Day: The nation will commemorate Iqbal Day on Friday (today) with zeal and fervour to pay a tribute to Allama Iqbal on his 135th birth anniversary.

The day will dawn with special prayers for the solidarity and prosperity of the country and well-being of the Muslims.

In Lahore, seminars and symposia will be held by different organisations as well as education institutes on the life and philosophy of Iqbal.
