HYDERABAD, Nov 8: A medical board on Thursday exhumed the body of Samia Detho — a woman killed along with her husband on Aug 23 allegedly by her father, brother and their associates — in the presence of the VIIIth judicial magistrate. The bones of her baby were also found as she was eight months pregnant when she was killed.

According to the board chairman, Dr Saleem Raza Memon, the woman’s viscera have been preserved for a chemical examination to be performed in Karachi.

Other members of the board include Police Surgeon Dr Liaquat Ali Khan, Professor Naseer Sheikh (pathology), Professor Waheed Ali Nahiyoon (forensic science) and Dr Anwar Baloch.

Mr Memon said that the preliminary report of the autopsy would be issued in a few days, adding that the examination showed that no formal burial of the deceased woman had taken place.

According to the complainant of the case, Mohammad Ismail Sheikh, the grave was identified by Haji Detho in presence of the judicial magistrate-VIII before the exhumation was carried out.

Another medical board comprising Prof Ashraf Khaskheli (pathology), Prof. Akbar Qazi (forensic science), Prof Nizamuddin Memon (radiology) and Dr Pardeep Kumar (anatomy) examined the remains of the woman’s husband, Ishtiaq Sheikh. They took a sample to be sent to Lahore for a DNA test.

The couple had married against the will of their families and moved to Karachi to escape the wrath of the woman’s family.

Meanwhile, the anti-terrorism court on Thursday extended the police remand of five accused in the case till Nov 12. Out of the 22 persons nominated as accused in the FIR, five have been arrested. They include Ahmed Detho, Haji Detho, Sikandar and Bilawal Qambrani.

The court also extended the pre-arrest bail granted to another suspect, senior civil judge Mohammad Saleem Qambrani, till Nov 12. The bail was granted on Nov 5.
