KARACHI, Nov 23: The task of enforcement of compulsory primary education in Sindh will be initiated from the next academic session.

This was stated by the Provincial secretary Education, Nazar Mohammad Mahar, while talking to APP here on Friday.

He said that the enforcement process would commence from the next academic session with one tehsil in each district.

Mahar was of the view that by the year 2004 the primary education would be made compulsory in the entire province.

He said for making the primary education compulsory in the province, the draft of the Sindh Primary Education Compulsory Ordinance is presently been vetted by the law department.

The education secretary further said this ordinance would be promulgated in the province soon.

He pointed out that the provincial cabinet has approved the draft of this ordinance.

Mahar said after the law is enacted, efforts would be made to implement it in the province.

Under the ordinance, the parents would be provided incentives so that they should send their children for the acquisition of education. The youngsters would also be provided books free of cost.

However, the ordinance would also carry provisions for imposing fines on those parents who would not send their children for acquiring education.

He further said that a law was also being promulgated that pertained to the registration of private educational institutions in the province.

He said the Sindh cabinet had also approved the draft of this ordinance which is being vetted by the law department.—APP
