RAWALPINDI, Jan 3: A woman was run over by a speeding vehicle on Thursday and a youngman drowned in Lahi drain on Friday, the police said.

The woman, Hashim Kheela, was killed after a passenger wagon (C-2166) ran over her at Motorway chowk while she was crossing the road. The wagon driver escaped.

In the second incident, a youngman drowned in a drain and disappeared. The Navy divers were, however, called to search the drowned person, but till the filing of this reports, no clue to the person was found.

Meanwhile, fire broke out in a warehouse situated on Liaquat road as a result of which goods worth Rs1.6 million were destroyed on Friday, the police said. The fire erupted in Mukhtar Ahmed’s warehouse at about 12.30 pm on Friday, which damaged all the plastic wares. Shortly afterwards, clouds of thick smoke appeared on the sky. However, the fire fighters took control over it after two hours.

According to the fire department, the cause of the fire is short-circuiting.

Meanwhile, The New Town police on Thursday registered an FIR of theft of electricity meters from the Holy Family Hospital.

The FIR was lodged on the complaint of Dr Aqeela Ashraf, the Medical Superintendent. She told police that some body had stolen the meters on the hospital premises soon after their installation.

The DSP New Town said the hospital staff would be interrogated.
