LAHORE, Oct 22: Qul were held on Monday for Meher Din, commonly known as Chacha Pakistani, who died here on Sunday morning.

He was buried in his Chadraiy village near Lahore in the afternoon.

The 90-year-old Chacha hit the fame when Gen Pervez Musharraf sent him on Haj on official expenses for his love for Pakistan, which he exhibited all his life by daily going to Wagah border for flag-lowering ceremony.

The Chacha, who died without issue, was born in 1922.

He had migrated to Pakistan after its creation and had been living with his nephews. He was reportedly sick for the last few days.

According to his nephews, he could not be given proper medical aid because of poverty. He did not have any permanent source of income. He has been living on the charity of those visiting Wagah border.

Chacha Pakistani had been given a number of certificates and awards by the Rangers because of his daily visit to the border.

He was buried on Sunday, draped in Pakistani flags according to his will. — Staff Reporter
