ISLAMABAD, Oct 22: The Judicial Commission (JC) on Monday recommended confirmation of Justice Shaukat Aziz on the regular strength of Islamabad High Court. He had been working as an additional judge of the court for the last one year.

Presided over by Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, the commission extended the tenure of additional judge Noorul Haq for six months. However, Justice Azeem Afridi, whose name was also on the list for confirmation, was not confirmed as the judge, nor his tenure as the additional judge was extended.

All the three judges were appointed as additional judges on Nov 20 last year.

Conspicuously Law Minister Farooq H. Naek was absent from the meeting. An informed source told Dawn that Attorney General Irfan Qadir and Pakistan Bar Council representative Dr Khalid Ranjha raised objections over the consideration of the three judges for confirmation.

The recommendations will now be taken up by the Parliamentary Committee established under the 18th and 19th Amendments to the Constitution.
