Woman deprived of ornaments

TAXILA, Oct 20:  A woman was robbed of gold ornaments in Model Town locality in the limits of Wah Saddar police station on Saturday.

Shazia Tassaduq reported to the police that she was alone in her house when two armed men scaled the wall and robbed gold ornaments worth Rs0.2 million. The robbers managed to flee successfully. Wah Saddar police have registered a case and started investigation. — Correspondent

Fire burns seven students

ATTOCK, Oct 20:  Seven students received burn injuries in a fire incident on Saturday at a school in Babrah village of Fatehjang police station.

Police sources said the students had sprinkled petrol on some wild bushes in order to ignite them. As soon as the match was lit, fire engulfed them. The local police rushed to the scene and shifted the injured to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Fatehjang, where they were treated. — Correspondent

Cleanliness drive

RAWALPINDI, Oct 20: The municipal services department of the City District Government Rawalpindi (CDGR) on Saturday launched the cleanliness drive after the arrival of sacrificial animals in the city.

Dr Mazhar Azeem, district officer of solid waste management department, told Dawn that the department had chalked out a plan to ensure cleanliness during Eidul Azha. He said holidays of 1,567 sanitary workers had been cancelled in this regard. “The waste of sacrificial animals will create sanitation problems, so the department has decided to start collecting waste,” he added.

Dr Azeem said the sanitary staff would work round the clock in three shifts during Eid, and 100 vehicles would be present in the field. He added that a control room had been established at the Rawal Town Municipal Administration on Liaquat Road. — A Reporter

Abandoned baby found

CHAKWAL, Oct 20: A baby boy was found lying in a field in Talagang city, police said on Saturday.

According to details, a newborn child was left in a field near the general bus stand on Friday night. Ashiq Hussain, while passing by on Saturday morning, heard the child cry and informed the local police. The child was taken to City Hospital and then handed over to a philanthropist.

“A letter has been written to the assistant commissioner and the area magistrate for further action,” Investigation Officer Malik Kazim Hussain told Dawn. “It seems the child was born on Friday evening and the mother had tried to dispose him of without wasting any time,” he added.—Correspondent

Outlaws arrested

ISLAMABAD, Oct 20: The capital police arrested several persons, including a Nigerian national, from different areas of the city on Saturday and seized narcotics, liquor, weapons and stolen items from them.

On a tip-off, Ramna police raided a shop in G-11/4 and arrested a Nigerian national, and seized 20 bottles of wine from him.

Aabpara, Golra and Tarnol police arrested three persons each after recovering 30-bore pistols from them.Similarly, Shahzad Town police arrested three persons and seized two 30-bore pistols and 1.3kg hashish from them.

Sabzi Mandi police arrested five persons on and found 90gms charas, 1.7kg opium and cash and mobile phones worth Rs54,000 in their possession. Industrial Area police also arrested a man after recovering two bottles of wine.

Shahzad Town police nabbed 50 suspects after they failed to produce identification documents during a search operation in Soan, Khana and Pindorian.— Staff Reporter
