PESHAWAR, Jan 2: Parliamentary leader of ANP Bashir Ahmed Bilour on Thursday, while criticizing the Legal Framework Order (LFO), said that amendments in the constitution was the sole prerogative of the parliament.
In a debate on LFO in the provincial assembly, Mr Bilour said his party opposed the LFO from day one and arranged anti-LFO seminar throughout the country which were also participated by the leaders of JI and JUI-F.
He argued that the Supreme Court should take suo motu action over the government’s move to incorporate the LFO in the 1973 Constitution. He said the Supreme Court in its verdict on the matter had ruled that amendments in the constitution would be made by the parliament when it was formed in the wake of October 2002 elections.
The LFO, he said, allowed the President to do the legislation whenever he desired. He urged the government to withdraw the LFO.
He said, defection clause was restored after the government had got the required strength in the National Assembly.—APP
