MARDAN, Oct 16: Police on Tuesday registered an FIR against six officials of Shergar police station over the custodial killing of a ninth grade student on Aug 23, 2012.

District and sessions judge of Mardan Shahid Khan had ordered the registration of the FIR.

District police officer Danishwar Khan told Dawn that the court had directed him to book Shergarh police station’s SHO Fazle Akbar Khan and personnel Afsar Ali, Mohammad Arif, Zubair, Iftikhar and Jamal under the relevant sections of Pakistan Penal Code over the killing of Akhtar Ali in police custody.

He said police were following the court order in letter and spirit and without delay.

The relevant police officials said a case under sections 147, 166, 201, 342 and 302 of Pakistan Penal Code had been registered against the six police officials.

Accused Jamal is in the police custody, while the others are at large. —Correspondent
