NAWABSHAH, Oct 16: At least 11 people, a woman and her daughter, were killed and 28 others injured when a bus overturned on the National Highway near Shahpur Jehanian on Tuesday morning.

The bus was going to Karachi from Dera Ghazi Khan. The accident took place when the driver lost control of the vehicle as he tried to save a donkey cart.

The woman identified as Azra, her daughter Muskaan and Ikhtiar Khatoon died on the spot.

The injured were taken to the Moro taluka hospital and People’s University of Medical and Health Sciences Hospital in Nawabshah by Edhi volunteers and police.

Driver Imran Khan, cleaner Behram Khan, Noor Khatoon, Sharifan Bibi, Zeeban Khatoon, Essa and two others died in hospitals.

Mohammed Mahboob, one of the injured, told Dawn that the bus had stopped at Moro for Fajr prayers after which the driver was changed.

He said the new driver was driving recklessly and several passengers had warned.

Shahpur Jehanian SHO Naimatullah Memon said that although the accident had not taken place in his jurisdiction but he went there and took part in rescue work.
