PESHAWAR, Oct 15: MNA Arbab Mohammad Zahir has expressed his grave concern over the attack on a police post in Ghaziabad and demanded of the government to take immediate steps to bring the situation under control.

“Where is the writ of the government if there are attacks on security posts and officers are killed and beheaded in this cruel manner,” the ANP lawmaker said.

The MNA from Peshawar was referring to the brazen militants’ attack on Ghaziabad post on Sunday night that left six police and Frontier Constabulary men dead and 11 wounded.

The militants seized SP rural, when rushed to the post that had been abandoned by his beleaguered colleagues, beheaded him and took away his head.

The attack created a scare and prompted the otherwise laid-back Provincial Police Chief Akbar Khan Hoti to call a high level meeting on Monday to discuss the situation.

Most of these attacks in the last month or so have happened in the election constituency of Mr Zahir.

In a statement, he said that government’s claim of having restored writ had been exposed by the deteriorating law and order in the peripheral areas of Peshawar. “If this is the situation in the fringes of Peshawar, what would be the situation elsewhere,” he questioned.

The MNA paid glowing tributes to the slain SP (Rural), Khurshid Khan. “He was a brave man,” Mr Zahir said. He said officers like Khurshid Khan, Kalam Khan and DSP Khurshid Khan were very rare and few as they laid down their lives to save and protect Peshawar.

He said that he had personally known the officers and was grieved over their untimely deaths at the hands of militants. “All those men were brave officers,” he said. The MNA demanded of the government to announce gallantry awards for the slain officers. “They should be given QPM and PPM,” he said in the statement. “They deserve it,” he said.

Mr Zahir said that government should also look into the fast deteriorating security situation in his area in the wake of bomb attacks and fire-raids. “This is alarming,” he said.

The MNA said that all security agencies must take immediate steps to arrest the situation from deteriorating further and bring the law and order under control.
