Sugarcane growers hold demo

NAUSHAHRO FEROZE, Jan 1: A large number of sugarcane growers staged a protest demonstration on the Naushahro Feroze bypass here on Wednesday against managements of sugar mills and the government.

Led by Naushahro Feroze union council Naib Nazim Abdul Raheem Abbasi and others, over 300 growers blocked the National Highway for one hour and burnt tyres.

The growers complained the mill managements were not ready to pay the sugarcane price of Rs43 per 40kg, as fixed by the government.

They criticized the authorities concerned for failing to implement their orders in this regard.

On the assurance of DPO Mohammad Dawood Junejo, who reached the spot and held talks with the protesters, that their demands would be conveyed to the authorities for early solution, the growers called of their protest.
