PESHAWAR, Jan 1: The component parties of Muttahida Majlis-i- Amal, a bloc of six religious parties remained inconclusive on the distribution of the senate tickets in the Frontier province, sources said.

The meeting of the provincial parliamentary board of the MMA, which held here at Al-Markaz-i-Islami, the Jamaat-i-Islami’s provincial secretariat on Wednesday, presided over by Qazi Abdul Latif, failed to reach an agreement over the senate ticket distribution.

The parliamentary board’s meeting was convened for the distribution of senate tickets among the component parties of the MMA and to evolve a joint strategy for the upcoming elections of the upper house, scheduled for Feb 4 and 8.

Insiders told Dawn that during the meeting Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (Samiul Haq) demanded two tickets, while other smaller groups including Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan (Noorani group), Tehreek-i-Islami and Jamiat Ahle-i-Hadiat demanded one seat, each.

However, the two main partners of the alliance - Jamaat-i- Islami and jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (Fazlur Rehman) - refused to materialize the demand of the allies.

These sources said that after disagreement the board left the decision to the central council of the MMA.

The provincial Shoora of the JUI (S) has already demanded the central council of the MMA to award senate tickets to the party chief Maulana Samiul Haq and its provincial chief Qazi Abdul Latif.
