HUB, Jan 1: Hundreds of townspeople blocked the main RCD Highway on Wednesday for over an hour in protest against what said free access of drugs to Hub.

They were carrying placards and banners inscribed with slogans against the narcotics business in their area.

Due to the blockade people coming from other parts of Balochistan and Karachi to the town had either to wait on road or to go on foot to across the bridge.

The protesters were calling for the eradication of drug business from the town, early arrest of drug pushers and security of their lives from the traffickers. They also burned tires on the highway.

Speaking on the occasion, Pathra Union Council Nazim Lala Majeed Mengal, asked the law enforcement agencies for the early stoppage of drug paddling in the town and warned them of a tough time in case of failure.

He alleged that the drug pushers had backing of police, and said the criminals had attacked houses of the people who had begun a campaign against them.

But when the DIG of Kalat Range, Abdul Aziz Bullo, assured them of redressing their problems, the protesters scattered peacefully.
