AJK chief justice attack case

MUZAFFARABAD, Oct 12: A single member bench of the AJK High Court here on Thursday took strong exception to the alleged incompetence of police with regard to the inquiry into last year’s attack on the high court chief justice and directed them to complete it in three months.

Justice M Tabassum Aftab Alvi, who was annoyed to hear that two members of investigating team had been transferred to Bagh and Rawalakot, respectively, directed that inquiry officer, Irfan Salim, currently serving as additional SP Mirpur, should be made to sit in Muzaffarabad until the completion of investigations in 90 days.

He expressed dissatisfaction at the clarification of SSP Raja Shafqat Tanveer Khan and directed him to nominate two competent police officers along with SP Salim so that he could accomplish the task within the stipulated period.

It may be recalled that CJ Ghulam Mustafa Mughal was shot and wounded on October 25, 2011, when he was on a routine afternoon walk in Chehla Bandi campus of AJK University. Police are yet to unearth and arrest the attacker(s).—Staff Correspondent

School for special children

RAWALPINDI, Oct 12: The City District Government Rawalpindi (CDGR) on Friday directed the special education department to improve services at the government-run school for special children.

The school situated near Gulzar-e-Quaid comes under the control of CDGR after the devolution of the special education subject.

The direction was given at a meeting on Friday, which was presided over by District Coordination Officer (DCO) Saqib Zafar and attended by Executive District Officer Mohammad Sher, District Officer Special Education Nusrat Najeeb and other senior officials.

The DCO directed the management to make arrangements for transport services to students living far away from the school. —A Reporter

Liquor smuggling bid foiled

TAXILA, Oct 12: Taxila Police on Friday foiled a bid to smuggle huge quantity of liquor from Lahore to Abbotabad and arrested father and son.

Talking to newsmen here, Sub divisional Police Officer Raja Taifour Akhter said that acting on a tip-off, a police party led by Inspector Mohammad Khan intercepted a mini truck and during search recovered over 2,000 bottles of liquor.

He said that during preliminary interrogation, the accused said he was taking the consignment to Abbotabad to sell them on the eve of Eid. — Correspondent
