PESHAWAR, Jan 1: Jamaat-i-Islami, Khyber Agency, has demanded of the government to take practical steps for the development of the tribal area and announce relief package for the social and economic uplift of Fata.

According to a press release issued here on Tuesday, a meeting of the JI, Khyber Agency, held in Jamrud with its chief Abdul Wadood in the chair, discussed various problems.

The meeting expressed concern over the alleged misappropriation of funds in tribal areas and suggested that the government should set up a special cell in the governor’s secretariat, Peshawar, to take prompt action against inefficient and corrupt officials and to address the grievances of the local people.

They said that despite restoration of democratic institutions the problems of the tribesmen still remained unresolved which was creating sense of deprivation among tribesmen.

The tribal elders asked the government to solve their basic problems including low voltage, drinking water, education and health care on priority basis.

They said that unemployment had become one of the serious issues of tribal areas, therefore the government should create job opportunities for the people.
