LAHORE, Oct 10: The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) on Wednesday condemned an “exceptionally cowardly” Taliban attack on the young rights activist Malala Yousafzai, hoping for her early recovery and appreciating the urgent attention the government paid to her medical treatment.

In a statement, the Commission said: “HRCP expresses solidarity with Malala Yousafzai and her family and hopes that she will come out of this trial soon. HRCP also appreciates the urgency and attention Malala received from the government and the medical team treating her.

The Commission also condemned the brashness of the attackers who had the audacity to threaten the unprotected child with another attack on her recovery.

“This is a new low even for the Taliban. Religious scholars and clerics parading themselves in the garb of politicians must reflect on what they have to say to this and indeed what they are prepared to do to prevent this madness that cannot be overly condemned. It is also a wake-up call, if another one was needed, for those pining to appease the extremists and going out of their way to advocate making peace with the Taliban.”

It said the attack exposed again the barbarism and the utter absence of humanity in the ruthless attackers.

LHCBA: The Lahore High Court Bar Association has condemned attack on Malala and termed it a coward act of militants.

At a general house meeting of the bar on Wednesday, lawyers warned the militants to quit their evil acts otherwise legal fraternity across the country would draw a strict line of action against them.

They said Malala is a brave girl who raised voice for the cause of girls’ education.

Supreme Court Bar Association’s former president and human rights activist Asma Jahangir said Malala is an enlightened face of Swat and attack on her life was a gruesome act.

She also expressed concern over another incident in Balochistan wherein 13 girls were subjected to vani.

She demanded of the federal and provincial governments to introduce an effective legislation on the issue of local Jirgas.

LHCBA President Shehram Sarwar and other office bearers also spoke on the occasion.
