QUETTA: The Supreme Court on Wednesday resumed the hearing of a petition on the law and order situation and human rights violations in Balochistan at the Supreme Court’s Quetta registry, DawnNews reported.

A three-judge bench of the apex court, comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar, Justice Khilji Arif Hussain and Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja, was hearing the petition filed by the Balochistan Bar Association on the law and order situation in the province.

During the hearing, the bench expressed its consternation over the incidents of targeted killings in the province's Khuzdar district.

Addressing Inspector General Balochistan Police Tariq Omar Khitab, Chief Justice Iftikhar asked whether Khuzdar's main bazaar had been shut for the past one month.

The chief justice said incidents of targeted killings were taking place on a daily basis in the district, adding that, journalists were not safe in Khuzdar.

Chief Justice Iftikhar remarked that the situation would not have deteriorated to such an extent if law enforcement was efficient.
