Four-goal Agha steals show

LAHORE, Dec 31: Four goals by Agha Murtaza helped Medowlea to beat Tuff Tiles 6 to 4 1/2 goals as two matches were decided in the New Year Cup polo tournament on Tuesday.

Agha who performed a hat trick by scoring three goals in the first chukker to make a flying start for his team, struck the remaining goal in the third chukker. Umar Sadiq and Saqib Khakwani added one goal apiece.

For the losers, Raja Sattar fired two goals while Col. Talha Saeed and Major Asif Zahoor scored a goal apiece. Half goal was their handicap.

In the other encounter, five goals by Azhar Ali enabled Free Lancers earn a 8-6 win against Millat Tractors.

Free Lancers was comfortably placed with a 8-3 lead in the middle of the final fourth chukker. However, Millat Tractor staged a fine comeback scoring three goals in a row, only to reduce the margin 8-6.

Besides Azhar, Hussain Iftikhar, Usman Hayee and Hamid Ali struck a goal each for the winning team.

For the losing side, Ahmad Nawaz Tiwana scored three goals while Mujahid Omer chipped in with two. Kamran Nooruddin also contributed a goal.
