HYDERABAD, Oct 8: Lawyers held a demonstration in protest against the Sindh local government act.

Carrying banners and placards, they were shouting slogans against the PPP-led government.

The protesters joined activists of civil society organisations which set up a token hunger strike camp outside the local press club in protest against the act.

Lawyers Hussain Bux Thebo, Ayaz Tunio and Sajjad Memon said the government must immediately repeal the act because people had rejected it apprehending that it would divide Sindh.

A protester, Punhal Sario, said the government must repeal the act because the controversy over it might lead to a civil war in the province.

“The road leading to the local press club was blocked by police and Rangers because of the PPP-led government’s rally. This is wrong because victims often protest outside the club, but today they were prevented from going there,” he said.
