MULTAN, Dec 31: The Punjab Environment Protection Department has decided to send a mobile laboratory to Muzaffargarh in order to gauge the intensity of the air pollution being caused by thermal power units.
The local district officer (environment), Mian Khalid Mehmood, said on Tuesday the district government of Muzaffargarh had requested the provincial government to send the laboratory.
He said TPS thermal power station, Kot Addu Power Company and Aes Lal Pir in Muzaffargarh were using 10,000 tons of furnace oil which was badly affecting the environment of the area.
He said the district government could take action against the thermal power units if they were proved guilty of spreading pollution.
GANG: Haram Gate police circle of Multan has tracked down a gang of thieves along with their ring leader and has recovered stolen goods worth hundreds of thousands of rupees.
Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, DSP Mirza Liaquat Beg identified the thieves as Muhammad Shazad alias Sheedi Baloch, Tanveer alias Billa, Imran alias Bara Panja, Imdad alias Mubari, Javed Chandio, Qaiser alias Munna and Abdul Qadeer. He said Sheedi Baloch was the leader of this gang which had committed thefts in the jurisdiction of the Delhi Gate, Mumtazabad and Lohari Gate police stations.
The DSP claimed that the gang was involved in 20 incidents of theft. He said police had so far recovered some 13 television sets, 4 VCRs and CD players, 50 tolas of gold and silver jewellery and several other electronic appliances from their possession.
