LAHORE, Oct 7: Two watchmen allegedly killed their elderly employer and plundered cash and valuables worth hundreds of thousands of rupees in B-Block of Gulberg III on Sunday.

The Ghalib Market police inquiries showed that 70-year-old Moeen Javaid, who was unmarried and lived along with his sister, had hired services of two watchmen Mohsin (of Jhelum) and Arsalan two months ago.

Both guards overpowered Moeen and his sister, tied them and started looting cash and valuables. As the old man offered resistance, the suspects attacked him with an axe and fled with Rs100,000 in cash, a laptop and a cell phone besides their CNICs the victim had obtained while hiring them.

The police and Rescue 1122 rushed to the spot on a call around 6:30pm -- three hours after the incident. The man with head wound was taken to the Services Hospital where he died.

Ghalib Market ASP Tariq Aziz told Dawn that the police took Javaid, who hails from Sarai Alamgir, into custody. He used to be a guard at the victim’s place and helped him hire Mohsin and Arsalan.

He said the police were conducting raids to arrest the absconders. He quoted the woman as saying that her brother received Rs100,000 in cash from a man around 2pm at home and she kept the money in a box. The woman said the watchmen first tried to tie them and then attacked his brother on resistance, said the ASP.

The police shifted the body to the Mayo Hospital’s morgue and registered a case.

In another incident, an armed man deprived Mohyuddin of his motorcycle at Mayo Colony in the Factory Area police precinct. He shot at and injured Mohyuddin and an emergency call helped the police reach the spot timely. The police claimed an exchange of fire took place during which they injured the robber and took him into custody.

Both injured men were shifted to the Services Hospital. The police identified the suspect as Awais of Samanabad.

Four robbers barged into the house of Pervaiz Iqbal in the Defence A police limits and fled with cash and valuables worth Rs1.5 million.

Robbers stormed the house of Javaid in the Gulshan-i-Iqbal police limits and looted cash and valuables worth Rs800,000.
