ISLAMABAD, Oct 7: The Pakistan People's Party Skardu chapter has condemned what it called unnecessary delay in early improvement and widening of Jaglot-Skardu road project at the hands of officials in the department concerned.  

Imran Nadeem, a former member of Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly and a PPP leader from Skardu, lashed out at group of officials, who were opposing reconstruction of the road, linking different parts of Skardu and Ganchey districts with the mainland of the region.

“A media campaign has been launched by a gang of officials against this outstanding project, which is strategically very important for the country,” he said in a press release.

Mr Nadeem said that early execution of the project was vital to meet the security requirements of the border and the people of region bordering with different countries. He said that during a visit of President Asif Ali Zardari to China in July 2010, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between National Highways Authority and China Gezhouba Group Company (CGGC) for funding of the project.

The PPP leader said that improvement and widening of Jaglot-Skardu road project was very important for the country as it was the only link for all the valleys of Skardu and Ganchey with the outside world.
