LAHORE: Chief Election Commissioner Fakhruddin G Ebrahim said on Friday that the Supreme Court and the Election Commission both wanted supremacy of the law and the Constitution pertaining to the issue of dual national lawmakers, DawnNews reported.

Ebrahim said that a session of the Election Commission had been summoned for Oct 9 to discuss the issue of fresh declarations of lawmakers’ nationalities.

Speaking to media representatives after visiting the provincial election commission's office in Lahore, Ebrahim said that the future of the country depended on the holding of free and fair elections.

He appealed to the people that they should register themselves in the voters lists to ensure transparent elections.

The election commissioner said that along with the election commission it was the responsibility of the media and of political parties to ensure transparency during general elections.

Ebrahim said he was displeased over media reports on voters' list and said the media had been misquoting figures.

“Some newspapers published stories saying that hundreds of thousands of voters’ names were not included in the lists,” said Ebrahim. “If your reports are true then prove them,” he challenged.

Moreover, he claimed that the copies of new voters' lists had not been received by any political parties.
