ISLAMABAD, Oct 4: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has decided to investigate the alleged misappropriation of funds meant for an uplift project in Multan.

Under the project solar lights were installed at four shrines and the Bahauddin Zakaria University.

The decision to start investigation was taken at the NAB executive board’s meeting presided over by Chairman Fasih Bokhari on Thursday.

“The meeting decided to authorise complaint verification in a case against officials of the Pakistan Engineering Council in Multan allegedly involved in embezzlement and misappropriation of millions of rupees in procurement and installation of five solar energy systems imported from China,” NAB spokesman Zafar Iqbal said.

He said solar energy systems were procured to install in Bahauddin Zakaria University and some shrines in the city.

In a separate case, the board decided to close an investigation into a case against Amir Ali Malik, former director-general of Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited, because of lack of incrementing evidence.
