SRINAGAR, Dec 30: New Delhi claimed its forces had killed eight Mujahideen in gunbattles on Monday and Sunday night.

In one incident the Indian army spotted two militants in the Surankote area of the district of Poonch, 240 kilometres west of occupied Jammu.

A police spokesman said both fighters were killed and later identified as belonging to the Lashkar-i-Taiba.

In another incident, the army killed a Pakistani militant who was crossing the border into Indian Kashmir in the Chachaya Bandi area of Poonch, the spokesman said.

Police said Indian troops killed four more militants on Sunday night in two encounters in held Jammu and Udhampur districts.

Four AK assault rifles and two hand grenades were recovered from the scene, police claimed.

Indian troops also shot dead a militant in the Baramulla district on Sunday night, police said.

An alleged informer for the Indian army, identified as Nissar Ahmed, was abducted and later beheaded by unknown men near Bijbehara township, Anantnag district, on Monday, police said.

In Srinagar, India’s Border Security Force (BSF) claimed arresting three militants, including two “commanders”, on Sunday night.

A rocket launcher, two rockets, a Chinese pistol, five grenades, one radio set and other arms and ammunition were recovered from them.—AFP
