Actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan - Reuters

The currently elusive and camera shy Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is ready to grace the silver screens once more. After nearly a year of film makers contending for her approval, it looks as though she will choose Mani Ratnam's adaptation of Daphne Du Maurier's famous 1938 novel Rebecca.

According to Times of India, Aishwarya and Ratnam have a sentimental past as she performed her debut role in his Tamil film Iruvar in 1997. A decade on she starred in his film Guru alongside Abhishek Bachchan, incidentally 2007 was also the year the two got married. Ratnam and Aishwarya worked together for Raavan as well. Whenever he has given her a chance to work with him she has never refused, this time was no different.

An insider told Times of India that the filmmaker is presently piecing the script together. The novel that Ratnam is adapting for a more regional audience is about a woman (Mrs de Winter) who a widower marries in haste and then regrets. She is constantly measured up against her husbands’ previous wife by the housemaid. This unrelenting comparison leaves Winter feeling criticised. She soon also comes to realise that all the while her husband has been in love with his deceased first wife.

Aishwarya will definitely be playing the lead role of Mrs de Winter and if everything goes according to plan the film will be released in 2014.
