LAHORE, Sept 25: Dozens of butchers on Tuesday staged a protest demonstration near the press club against the authorities concerned for shifting the slaughtering business to the newly-constructed automated abattoir at Shahpur Kanjran after closing most of the old and manual slaughterhouses at Kot Kamboh.

Carrying placards and banners, the butchers chanted slogans against the Punjab Agriculture and Meat Company for disrupting their business. They termed animal slaughtering at the new abattoir by PAMCO ‘un-Islamic’.

“We don’t know why the government is ruining the business of hundreds of butchers,” Butchers Welfare Society President Malik Iftikhar Waseem said while speaking on the occasion.

He appealed to the chief minister to allow them to continue slaughtering animals manually in an Islamic way.
