KARACHI, Dec 29: Railway employees have called for the announcement of a relief package for the workers and restoration of all the facilities which have been withdrawn.

Speaking at the meeting held jointly by the Pakistan Labour Federation and Railway Workers Federation here on Sunday, the workers also demanded reinstatement of all the retrenched PR employees.

They urged the government to replace the uniformed officials and army teams with the civilian individuals and teams from various departments and organizations now when the democracy had been restored.

The workers further demanded repeal of the Industrial Relations Ordinance-2002 and revival of trade union activities in all the organizations so as to enable the workers elect their collective bargaining agents (CBAs) and ensure protection of their rights.

They called for the restoration of reservation quota of the railway employees and facility of free passes for the retired PR employees as wellas for the widows of deceased workers.

Among those spoke on the occasion were Manzoor Razi, Farid Sabri, Ghulam Sarwar and Mohammad Arif.
