Man sentenced to death

CHAKWAL, Sept 22: A man was awarded capital punishment in Talagang on Saturday. Mohram Khan, a resident of Noorpur village was booked on December 2010, over the charge of killing his son-in-law, Mohammad Yousuf.

After a trial of nineteen months, the Additional District and Session Judge Talagang, Raja Pervez Akhtar found him guilty on Saturday. The judge sentenced the culprit to death and also imposed a fine of Rs200,000. If the killer fails to pay the fine he would have to face six month extra imprisonment. — Correspondent

Teenager slain

CHAKWAL, Sept 22: A teenager was killed in Talagang over a petty dispute, police said on Saturday. Bisharat Ali Ghaori, a resident of Akwal village had a quarrel with two youngsters Bilal and Basit of his village, a couple of days ago.

On Friday evening, enraged Bilal and Basit attacked Bisharat with daggers and injured him seriously. He was rushed to the hospital where he expired on Friday night. Saddar Police started efforts to trace the alleged killers, after registering a case against them. — Correspondent

Gold looted

RAWALPINDI, Sept 22: Three unidentified robbers stormed into a jewellery shop and escaped with 400 grams of gold at Dheri Hassanabad in Civil Lines police area on Saturday.

The Police, upon receiving the news, rushed to the scene and recorded the statements of the victims.

According to the Civil Lines SHO Station Raja Shakeel, three intruders, equipped with guns, entered Al-Rahman Jewellers located at Main Dheri Hassanabad Road at 2:30pm.

The robbers injured a security guard by hitting his head with the butt of their guns and later held the entire staff hostage on gunpoint. They escaped with only 400 grams of gold. — A Reporter

Body found

TAXILA, Sept 22: The body of a man missing from Islamabad was found near the Islamabad-Peshawar motorway (M-1) on Saturday, in the village of Jando Chokkar in the limits of Taxila police station.

Police sources said that the body of Muneer Khan, a driver employed by a private firm, was spotted by a passerby near Jando Chokkar who then informed the police.

His body was later shifted to THQ hospital for autopsy. According to the preliminary medical examination, he had been hanged to death. Taxila police have registered a case against the assailants and started investigations. — Correspondent

Police foil bids to steal weapons

ISLAMABAD, Sept 22: Police claimed to have foiled bids by miscreants to loot weapons from the armoury of Tarnol police Station and vehicles of protesters on Friday.

According to a police spokesman, around 4,000 people attacked the Tarnol police station and tried to loot the armoury. He said six policemen, including ASI Sher Mohammad, were injured.

Police arrested eight of the attackers, identified as Afghan nationals and locals of Tarnol. They told the investigators that they had attacked the police station to loot the armoury and use the weapons against the police in the Red Zone.

In another bid, the police arrested six persons from Red Zone when they tried to steal the motorcycles of some protesters who had run away leaving behind the vehicles due to massive shelling. The police also recovered four motorcycles from them along with other valuables.

The Sabzi Mandi police arrested two Afghan nationals who were stealing scrap from the damaged toll plaza and vehicles at I.J. Principal Road. — Staff Reporter
