LAHORE, Sept 20: Punjab Olympic Association (PbOA) president Syed Shahid Ali withdrew his resignation on unanimous resolution of the general body which convened here on Thursday.

The PbOA president had tendered his resignation in the last joint meeting of the PbOA general body and secretaries of the national sports federations held here last Thursday.

Shahid on the occasion had admitted that as PbOA president he failed to convince the provincial government to assist his organisation in hosting the 32nd National Games which has been allotted to it by the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA).

However, the PbOA general body did not accept his resignation, unanimously asking him (on Thursday) to withdraw it.

“Syed Shahid Ali had put forward his resignation from the post of Punjab Olympic Association president during a meeting held on Sept 13 with regards to the 32nd National Games. But he withdrew his resignation upon unanimous request of the general council,” said a PbOA official press statement.

The general council also decided that the 32nd National Games would be held in Lahore from Dec 22 to 28.

The Games were to be held from Oct 16 to 22, but having failed to receive any satisfactory reply from the provincial government, the PbOA set new dates of Dec 22 to 28 for the National Games.

The general body meeting also finalised dates for the fifth Inter-school and Inter-college Games, which will be held from Nov 8 to 12.
