HYDERABAD, Dec 28: Chairman of the Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party Dr Qadir Magsi, on Friday criticized President Gen Pervez Musharraf for accepting the appointment of the acting convenor of the Muttahida’s coordination committee as the governor of Sindh.

Speaking to protestors, who had gathered at the call of the Sindh Unity Committee, at the local press club, he termed the appointment of Dr Ishratul Ibad as the Sindh governor part of an international conspiracy aimed at usurping the mineral resources of Sindh.

Criticizing the Sindhi leaders for keeping quite over appointment of non-Sindhi leaders in the past, he said that the Sindhi people had never accepted any non-Sindhi governor.

He, however, cautioned against denying the majority the right to rule saying that the country had faced dire consequences in 1971 when the voice of the majority of Bengalis was suppressed.

He pledged to observe black day on December 27 every year.

Lashing out at Bashir Khan Qureshi for supporting the newly- appointed governor of Sindh, he said that if he liked Ishratul Ibad so much then he should take him to Ratodero, Qureshi’s native town.

Magsi threatened of launching a civil disobedience movement if excesses continued unabated against the Sindhi people, saying his party would strive to create awareness about the real issues of Sindh.

Terming it ironical the appointment of a person as the governor of Sindh whose name still adorned the Interpol’s list of wanted persons.

Rejecting the Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s contention that it represented the Urdu-speaking community, he said that it only represented those who believed in the culture of terrorism.

Instead of bargaining on the core issues of Sindh like construction of Thal canal, Kalabagh dam, water apportionment, and National Finance Commission (NFC) award the Muttahida leaders had only called for elimination of the no-go areas at the time of voting for the prime minister in the National Assembly.

He said that the Muttahida was interested in acquiring the industrial area of Korangi for extortion. The STPP chief asked if the MQM ministers would resign when Sindh faced water shortage during the next sowing season.
