DADU, Dec 28: An under-trail prisoner of the Dadu district prison, Mohammad Iqbal Jamali, 35, died in the Liaquat University Hospital, Jamshoro on Saturday.

The relatives of the deceased, Niaz Jamali and Bachal Jamali, alleged that the UTP was injured and he fell unconscious due to torture in the prison on Friday.

Talking to journalists here, they said that the UTP was shifted to the Dadu Civil Hospital and later sent to the LUH where he died.

They said that the prison administration had tortured the UTP because he had not paid Rs2,000 bribe, demanded by it.

The jail administration, however, claimed that the UTP was sent to the hospital because he was ill.

The UTP was sent to the prison in a theft case some six months back.

DEMO: A large number of the Pakistan People’s Party activists staged a demonstration in Johi on Saturday against the appointment of Dr Ishratul Ibad as the Sindh governor.
