LAHORE, Sept 18: A man shot dead his wife, mother-in-law and stepson over a minor family dispute in Green Town on Tuesday.

The police said suspect Ubaidullah Pathan of Swabi injured his other stepson and fled the scene, hurling threats at other family members. The victim family was residing in a rented house at 504 C-I near Model Bazaar.

Initial investigations suggested that Ubaidullah had contracted second marriage with Fatima Chaudhry (41) a couple of years back. She had two young sons from her first husband. After marriage, the suspect started living with her in the rented house. Ubaid was jobless and would demand money from his wife and stepsons.

Police said Pathan again demanded Rs200,000 from Fatima on Tuesday and physically assaulted her in the presence of her two sons Salman and Ibrahim when she refused to give the amount. Salman has a child.

When both moved to rescue their mother, Pathan opened fire on them. He later shot at his mother-in-law Khursheed Bibi.

The police said Ubaidullah also chased Salman’s wife and opened fire but she escaped unhurt as she locked herself in washroom along with her baby.

All the three victims died on the spot, the police said adding that injured Ibrahim was shifted to hospital where his condition was said to be stable.

Police shifted dead bodies to the city morgue for autopsy and registered a murder case against Ubaidullah on the complaint of Ibrahim with no arrest so far.

A source said the police raided a house and took into custody suspect’s brother and father who were living in the same area.
